History

Toulon was established as the county seat for Stark County in 1841. The first courthouse was completed just one year later.

The current courthouse was completed in 1856. The courthouse is famous for the Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas debates. Both spoke at the courthouse in Toulon, but not on the same day.

Abraham Lincoln is rumored to have had a tooth removed in Dr. Thomas Hall's office, which is located near the courthouse.
